Martin Luther King Jr on The Three Big Evils: Prejudice, War and Poverty

Here is a sermon using MLK's statements on the three big evils: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late." Today, we gather to reflect on the three evils that King identified as the greatest threats to humanity: prejudice, war, and poverty. Prejudice, in all its forms, is a cancer that eats away at the soul of our society. King said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." We must continue to shine a light on the injustices that perpetuate prejudice and work towards a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. War, with all its devastating consequences, is a scourge on humanity. King declared, "War is a poor chisel to carve out tomorrow." We must continue to strive for peaceful solutions to conflicts and work towards a world where differences are resolved without violence. Poverty, in all its forms, is a blight on our society. King said, "We have an obligation to help the poor." We must continue to work towards a world where everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive. As we reflect on these three evils, let us remember King's words: "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." Let us continue to bend towards justice, working towards a world where everyone can live with dignity and respect. May we be guided by King's wisdom and work towards a brighter future for all. Amen.
