March 13, 2025 12:26 pm
DURHAM, NC β A league-high thirty-eight Coastal Plain League (CPL) alums highlight Major League rosters during this yearβs MLB Spring Training Breakout games. This is the second year for the four-day event that features games in both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues and showcases the top players from all 30 MLB teamsβ farm systems.
Former CPL players turned rising stars will be featured on 18 different MLB teams, led by the Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, and Washington Nationals with four CPL alums each. Arizona and Seattle are next with three apiece. In all, there are 18 CPL alums participating on the American League side and 20 on the National League. Further, none of the 38 players have made their debut in the Bigs yet, while 14 also participated in last seasonβs Breakout games.
Overall, 11 of the CPLβs current 15 clubs and two former CPL teams were represented. The High Point-Thomasville HiToms and Macon Bacon both featured the most former players with six, followed by the Lexington County Blowfish with five. Both Holly Springs and Peninsula have four alums, while Asheboro is next with three. Morehead City, Tri-City, and Wilson are next with two, and Florence and Wilmington both had one alum. Former CPL teams Savannah (2) and Fayetteville (1) rounded things out.
All Breakout games will be broadcast through MLB.com, MLB Network or regional sports networks and the full schedule can be found online at MLB.com. See below for a complete list of the CPL alums participating in this yearβs Breakout games.
