RFK Jr. Opinion on the History of his father's assassination
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a different account of his father's assassination, contradicting the official story that Sirhan Sirhan acted alone. RFK Jr. believes that Sirhan didn't kill his father, and his doubts stem from the autopsy report and other evidence.
According to RFK Jr., the autopsy revealed that all four shots that struck his father were fired from behind at a steep upward angle, with two leaving gunpowder residue in the wounds. This suggests that the assassin was standing close behind his father, shielding his weapon with his body while all attention focused on Sirhan.
RFK Jr. also points to the fact that Sirhan only shot two bullets at his father before being tackled, and that there were 13 shots heard in a recording, despite Sirhan only firing eight shots. The Los Angeles Police Department allegedly hid this audiotape during Sirhan's trial.
Additionally, RFK Jr. suspects that a security guard named Thane Eugene Cesar, who was standing behind his father, may have been involved in the assassination. Cesar was never officially investigated and reportedly died in 2019.
RFK Jr.'s doubts about Sirhan's guilt led him to advocate for Sirhan's release from prison. In 2021, RFK Jr. wrote an op-ed stating that he believes Sirhan should be released, citing the inconsistencies in the official story and the lack of evidence against Sirhan.¹
